A Mad Desk: Scribbles of the Blank Minds is a collaborative online journal/weblog of selected CW101 (Introduction to Creative Writing) students under Professor Jhoanna Lynn Cruz. It showcases all the revised creative works done in this creative writing class, 2nd semester, academic year 2007-2008. Different poems, fictions and dramatic monologues are compiled in this weblog.
The authors of this blog are second year students enrolled in BA English (BAE) Creative Writing program of the University of the Philippines in Mindanao.
Easter Sunshine Catedral [Shyne] likes cute things which include MCSG, of which she referred as ‘the cutest’ of all, and dislike anything that is not ‘MCSG-like’. In her journal, she wrote that ‘… in a long distant relationship, deceit and infidelity is inevitable’ and ‘holding on to each other is impractical…’ She said that this first creative writing class made her shiver and nervous.
Christian Jane Centina [Kring-kring] likes to browse books and watch movies. She said that she ‘can spend 20 minutes clicking the cam, and saving nothing at all’ in one of her journal entries, under Narcissist Me. She doesn’t like it when she thinks a lot, and avoids people who can’t keep their words.
Khareen Culajara [Rini] spends her free time either sleeping or updating her daily schedules. She hates geckos and skipping classes. In her journal, she said that she intended to take any electronics course before, because she loves ‘constructing and deconstructing things’. She has a special attraction to mothballs, screw drivers, bonnets and burgers.
Henrietta Diana de Guzman [Diana/Henry] is frequently seen either in the library browsing through art books or in the internet café, browsing through Friendster profiles. She wants to express her heartfelt disappointment to a certain guy named Bryan who denied her Friendster request. She is fond of sketching landscapes and figures of women. She hates the ‘demon who wears Converse’ and loves Spongebob. She wrote ‘… I know I’ll be better in BAE, I really know it’ in her journal.
Lymae Belle Ednalgan [Dimple] likes cooking and playing guitar. In her journal, she said that she ‘…want[s]to write through hardwork and patience…’ and her chosen course is ‘…like a marathon where I [she] have [has] to strive hard not only to compete with others’ but with this, she believes that she can have her own identity. She loves orchids, particularly Dancing Lady and hates backbiters.
Alpha Khristine Fortun [Alpha] loves squids, coffee and milk. She also finds the cats and the nests simply irresistible. Rats and bats are on the top of her I Hate – list. She doesn’t like PE at all.
April Dawn Paramio [Apple/April] said that she wants to keep her profile private and refuses to answer any questions.
Maureen Devorah Ronquillo [Mau] hates cigarettes and writing essays. She loves milk, ice cream, carrot and raisins instead.
Edwin Sinsona [Edwin] – says that ‘…hindi ako interesanteng tao, gwapo lang ako yun lang [I am not an interesting person, I’m just handsome, that’s all]’. He hates cockroaches, and loves crabs and other sea foods. He is also fond of playing all kinds of ball games.
